Ted's Woodworking review: are 16,000 woodworking plans worth?

For a while now, Ted's collection of 16,000 woodworking plans has captured my attention. And here I propose my Ted's Woodworking review, with all pros and cons.

Its allure seemed almost too good to be real. Despite not being an ardent woodcraft enthusiast, I contemplated that investing in the kit and completing a project or two would be a wise use of my resources.

But my inquisitive nature got the upper hand. I took the leap and made the purchase. Knowing they had a refund policy, I reasoned that if it turned out to be utterly futile, I could always request my money's return.

I use this data base and video courses regularly, but how was my process?

Is the product worth? My Ted's Woodworking review 

To be honest, it's not exactly that. It's rather commendable, but not flawless; still, it holds its own merit.

Certain plans within the compilation are subpar, seemingly included solely to bolster the appeal of boasting "16,000" plans.

However, nestled amidst the assortment, there are genuinely exceptional plans. Some are satisfactory, while others are merely passable. It's no surprise that perfection isn't attained here; after all, it's an immense assortment and hodgepodge of diverse plans for all sorts of creations.

Here's the mindset to adopt if you decide to invest in Ted's Woodworking: acknowledge that not every plan will suit your taste. In fact, anticipate that you'll probably disregard 90% or more of them due to various reasons, such as their inferior quality or them not aligning with your desired projects.

BUT, those select few plans that resonate with you and possess decent craftsmanship—if you bring them to life—they will undeniably justify the cost of this digital compendium of woodworking plans.

Will I use the money back option?

Absolutely not. It's a worthwhile investment considering the price I paid. Granted, I could easily request a refund and likely retain the plans in their digital PDF format. Nevertheless, that approach doesn't align with my personal principles. When I perceive something as deserving of the monetary value I assigned to it, seeking a refund is not my inclination. I hold a strong belief that I will reap the full benefits of my expenditure in due course.

Furthermore, I have the assurance within my Ted's Woodworking membership that I will gain access to newly introduced plans as time progresses. Naturally, I cannot guarantee the actual occurrence of this promise, but the potential is there. You can understand it from my Ted's Woodworking review.

Does Ted's Woodworking consist solely of pilfered plans?

Certain individuals online have insinuated that Ted's Woodworking plans are flagrantly plagiarized from various sources and assembled into a colossal digital "plans product." In essence, they accuse Ted's Woodworking of engaging in widespread copyright infringement.

Is Ted's Woodworking a fraudulent product that violates copyright laws?

I cannot say for certain. It is a possibility, but without concrete evidence, I refrain from speculation. Any digital product runs the risk of such claims.

What I do know is that this product has been available for years. If it were indeed a substantial case of copyright infringement, it stands to reason that the authorities would have intervened by now. However, the absence of intervention does not automatically disprove the existence of copyright infringement... but I, to be frank, lack the necessary information to pass judgment one way or another.

It is plausible that Ted obtained licenses to sell each plan and/or that the plans are in the public domain and/or Ted devised some of the plans independently. I have no knowledge regarding the specifics, as I never conducted an exhaustive investigation (who truly has the time for such meticulous scrutiny?).

Efficient Organization: Upon purchasing Ted's Woodworking, I breathed a sigh of relief. I didn't have to sift through an endless sea of PDF pages. Ted made a conscientious effort to categorize the plans meticulously, making it a breeze to find worthwhile options.

Moreover, the members' area boasts intuitive navigation and exemplary organization.

Value for Money: A mere completion of one or two projects from this product justifies the expenditure. I am confident that in the long run, I will extract full value from my investment. Although I haven't explored every single plan yet, I have discovered ample high-quality projects that satisfy my expectations, considering the product's reasonable cost.

Affordability: It proves to be a cost-effective choice since it is a digital download, sparing you from the expense of purchasing a physical book—a truly advantageous aspect.

Source of Inspiration: The vast array of plans offers an invaluable benefit: while perusing through them, I discovered novel project ideas that hadn't previously crossed my mind. The sheer abundance of options served as a wellspring of inspiration.

Cons

Subpar Plans: Regrettably, there are plans within the collection that fall short in quality, necessitating the investment of time in filtering through them. Personally, I would prefer a product offering fewer plans but with a focus on ensuring each one maintains a high level of excellence.

Woodworking Videos: To be honest, the inclusion of woodworking videos feels lackluster. Thankfully, it is merely a supplementary feature, so it didn't particularly bother me. However, I believe these videos undermine the overall quality of the product. They primarily consist of content sourced from YouTube, with Ted essentially curating woodworking videos from the platform and incorporating them into the members' area. I sampled a few of these videos, but they proved to be unworthy of my time and attention.

Conclusion

In general, I am content with my purchase. I discovered numerous projects that piqued my interest, and the plans provided ample detail, ensuring my ability to successfully bring them to life.

Having this extensive collection at my disposal proves invaluable, even if I currently lack an immediate need.
