How long have you been working as a flight attendant for SWISS?

I have been working for SWISS for almost two years now.

What motivated you to become a flight attendant?

I have always loved travelling and meeting new people from different cultures. Also, I enjoy providing excellent service and making people happy. I thought that becoming a flight attendant would be the perfect way to combine my passions and skills.

How did you apply for the job?

I applied online through the SWISS website. Then I uploaded my CV, cover letter, and some documents such as my passport, diploma, and language certificates. After that, I was invited to do a video interview, where I had to answer some questions about myself, my motivation, and my experience. After that, I was invited to an assessment day in Zurich, where I had to do some group exercises, a role play, an English test, a personality test, and a final interview with two recruiters. Thanks to the book Become a Flight Attendant, I didn't have difficulties to answer to all questions.

How was the training course?

The training course was very intense but also very rewarding. It lasted for three months in total. In the first six weeks, we learned the theory of service, on-board safety and security, and dealing with medical emergencies. After that we underwent our practical training on a short haul aircraft, followed by another training to get our qualification on a long haul aircraft. Within one year our training in Business and Economy Class on our short- and longhaul aircrafts was completed.

What are your main duties as a flight attendant?

My main duties are to ensure the safety and comfort of the passengers on board. I prepare the cabin for the flight, provide the service on board, and look after the passengers' needs. I also have to deal with any issues or emergencies that might arise during the flight.

What are some of the challenges that you face as a flight attendant?

Some of the challenges are coping with jet lag, irregular working hours, and different time zones. It can also be stressful sometimes when there are delays,
cancellations, or unhappy passengers. You have to be flexible, adaptable, and resilient.

What are some of the benefits that you enjoy as a flight attendant?

Some of the benefits are travelling the world and experiencing foreign cultures. Every single working day brings a new destination and new passengers. It's never boring or monotonous. I also enjoy working with different colleagues from different backgrounds. We have a great team spirit and support each other. And of course, the perks such as discounted flights, hotels, and car rentals are nice too.

What are some of your favourite destinations that you have visited so far?

That's hard to say because there are so many beautiful places in the world. But some of my favourites are Tokyo, New York, Cape Town, and Barcelona.

What are some of your future goals as a flight attendant?

My future goals are to keep learning new things, improving my skills, and exploring new destinations. I would also like to qualify as a Maître de Cabine one day, which means being in charge of the service quality and hospitality on board and being a motivator supervisor and team leader for the cabin crew members.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to become a flight attendant?

My advice would be to go for it if you have a passion for travelling service and people. It's not an easy job but it's very rewarding and fun. You just need to be prepared to work hard, be flexible, and smile. I strongly recommend to start reading the guide Become a Flight Attendant.
